The Wella International Trend Vision 2014 was held at the Grimaldi Forum in Monte Carlo, Monaco hosted by celebrity stylist and hair ‘Maestro’ Patrick Cameron, where this weekend hairdressers from around the world brought glamour and a party spirit to this incredible city.
Arriving in Nice the UK salons were helicoptered into to the fabulous Metropole Hotel then dined at selected restaurants before heading to the famous Casino.
Early Sunday morning start, Sassoon revealed their ‘Nu- Pop’ collection inspired by Sassoon’s own wonderful heritage, blasting Nirvana at 9.30 in the morning , roused the audience , perfect opening.
The auditorium listened and were inspired by Josh wood (Wella Global Colour Director) interviewed by blogger, hair and beauty afficionado ,Lady Kinvara Belfour. Josh’s passion is to elevate colour to the luxury fashion hierarchy, and rightly so. The future of Wella hair colour is in very safe creative hands , with innovations like Illumina, instamatic and innosense heralded, the exciting relaunch of Magma and new Wella Couture Colour Education programme announced to launch in January, expectations were raised.
With many salon owners and key leading industry figures in attendance the format of business education continued with a further interview with Eugene Souleiman (Wella Global Creative Director) the best session stylist of his generation, he gave candid insights into his career and session work , commenting on his early association with the legendary fashion designer Alexander McQueen, were he remembered humble beginnings, on a shoot McQueens mum served Mother’s Pride bread , ham and tomato sandwiches.
The Wella ITVA2014 itinerary promised a ‘surprise’ however we were not expecting the inimitable Patrick Cameron’s French Riviera wonderfully themed show to be as entertaining, the showman dazzled us with his speed and execution of this opulent collection, his expressions and animation were hilarious and entoxicating, the music , his collection delivered to absolute perfection of this genre. He shed a tear and fought back the emotions as the audience gave him a rousing standing ovation, the room was welling up as he proclaimed ‘Iv’e waited 30 years for this moment’ It was a privilege to witness the generous spirit in the room. Apart from our very own Sammantha Wallace winning UK Gold in London this was the most memorable moment of all Wella ITVA’s.
Wella then announced that next year was their 135th anniversary so will be hosting Wella ITVA2015 in Berlin.
Hobs Salons opened the evening finale, delivering an outstanding show and collection of 15 models ,stunning hair cuts and colours, that showed why they are a team at the top of their form. Akin’s work demonstated a masterclass of how to inspire hairdressers. As Patrick whipped the audience up with the parade of nations the drama and excitement continued as the winners were announced , Hobs Salons lifted the top prize through Nestor Sanchez in the Young Talent category and kept their and the UK’s great record in this competition. Taiwan Chia-Jung (Celine) Lin, Una Hair Salon, won Platinum in the Colour category .Hundreds of thousands of viewers watched the event live online and voted for their favourites in the Peoples Choice Award (see below)
Dinner was served by Michelin star quality chef’s then Sebastian gave us a mysterious showcase and collection on stage, contestants,models,dancers,Wella staff, and everyone in attendance partied the night away.
With the UK’s British Hairdressing Awards the next day many in attendance were going direct from Wella’s ITVA to London ‘s Grosvenor House Hotel , good luck to all the finalists , Roll on Wella ITVA2015, hope to see you in Berlin.
